Fires in LA - 27th January 2025

Fires are burning in Los Angeles. 27 people died in these fires. More than 200,000 people had to leave their homes.

The first fire started on 7th January in Pacific Palisades in the morning. Then, another fire started in a big forest in the evening. Soon, there were 6 more fires.

Nicole Perri and Kyle Kucharski left their home. They’re very upset. Nicole doesn’t want to tell her children the bad news.

Nicole Perri: "I feel broken. I feel lost. I feel devastated. I don't want to have to tell my boys that this is their home, that is gone. It's so tragic, and I know I'm not the only one. So I feel for everyone who's in this position. I really do."

How did the fires start? No one really knows. But the land is very dry.

There was almost no rain for 8 months. Strong winds are a problem too. The fires can grow and travel quickly.

The fires burned more than 17,000 buildings. Many people lost their homes.

It will be expensive to repair the damage. This will cost more than $135 billion.
